Saturday afternoon shall see Conwy Borough Swifts open their league season as CPD Glannau visit Y Morfa with the Tangerines looking to make it three wins on the bounce in all competitions.
🗞️ Preview:
Following back-to-back victories in the JD Welsh Cup and Dragon Signs Amateur Cup respectively, Conwy Borough Swifts will be looking for their third consecutive victory as they open their league campaign at Y Morfa this weekend.
The off-season merger with Llandudno Swifts has provided an extended player pool for managers Simon Allen and Steve Montgomery to select from as the club looks for an immediate return to the third tier having suffered relegation last season.
Standing in the way of a positive start to the season will be CPD Glannau who will arrive in Conwy with ambitions of their own as both teams look to secure a vital three points on the opening day.
👀 In Opposition:
Established in 2018, CPD Glannau were born out of the vision to bring competitive grassroots football back to the local coastal community in North Wales. The name “Glannau,” meaning “shores” in Welsh, reflects the club’s proud roots and close ties to the region’s maritime identity.
Starting out in the lower tiers of the Welsh football pyramid, the club quickly gained a reputation for its ambitious spirit, community engagement, and attacking brand of football. Within just a few seasons, CPD Glannau earned promotion from local district leagues thanks to a mix of homegrown talent and experienced local players returning to represent their area.
Off the pitch, the club has built strong links with schools and youth academies, cementing itself as a vital part of their local community.
🗣️ Gaffer’s Thoughts:
Joint managers Simon Allen and Steve Montgomery have challenged their side to build on recent results this weekend: “We’ve had a solid pre-season and the development of the group has been clear for everyone to see.
“The last two weeks have seen us pick up results to progress in both cup competitions as well as a solid win for our reserves, so we’ll go into this weekend full of confidence but knowing that Glannau will come to Y Morfa looking for a result.
“We want the lads to build on the good form shown of late and we want to start the league campaign with a win.”
