Conwy Borough Swifts will continue their JD Welsh Cup journey on Saturday afternoon when Bangor 1876 visit Y Morfa.
Preview:
Fresh off the back of an impressive victory on Tuesday evening, Conwy Borough Swifts will be in high spirits going into Saturday’s JD Welsh Cup tie against Bangor 1876.
Co-Manager Simon Allen saw his Tangerines come from a goal and man down away at Glan Conwy, grabbing a 3-2 victory in the final moments of the game, returning to winning ways having suffered their first defeat of the season the Saturday prior.
Standing in their way of another victory shall be higher league opponents Bangor City, a club who need little introduction to anyone with knowledge of the Welsh football pyramid.
In Opposition:
Formed in 2019 by supporters of the original Bangor City, CPD Bangor 1876 was created to safeguard the city’s proud footballing tradition after financial troubles left the old club in crisis. The ‘1876’ name pays tribute to the year organised football began in Bangor, and the club quickly established itself as a fan-owned, community-driven outfit with a clear identity.
Starting in the Gwynedd League (Tier 5), Bangor 1876 wasted no time in climbing the pyramid, winning titles and setting scoring records along the way. Their rise saw them reach the Cymru North (Tier 2), where they tested themselves against some of the strongest semi-professional sides in Wales.
Off the field, Bangor 1876 continues to make headlines, a new partnership with Bangor City Stadium, coupled with major upgrades including expanded seating and a new 4G pitch, underlines their ambition.
Gaffer’s Thoughts:
Joint managers Simon Allen and Steve Montgomery are looking for their squad to do themselves proud against Bangor this weekend: “We know that we’re in for a tough test against a very strong Bangor team this weekend, but this is what the cup is all about.
“We’ve got a fairly young squad who are developing with each game they play together, so this week really gives them an opportunity to go out and test themselves against an established higher league opponent.
“The message will be to go out and leave everything on the pitch, do themselves proud and the rest will take care of itself.”

Saturday’s action shall kick-off at 2:00pm with gates open from 1:00pm with a cash / card turnstile in operation.
